Charles de Gaulle Airport adds more automated border gates

Morpho, a division of the SAFRAN Group, has provided six additional PARAFE automated border control e-gates to Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris.

First installed in 2009, the PARAFE system enables the airport to improve the passenger experience by reducing waiting time while enhancing security. PARAFE, translated from French, means Automated Fast Track Crossing at External Borders.

Through the PARAFE system, passengers cross the border using automated passport control. Using biometric authentication technology based on fingerprinting, the system makes it possible to carry out border crossing formalities simply, quickly and without any hold-ups. It is an extremely practical alternative to the manual controls.

With the addition of these border control gates, Aéroports de Paris, the French capital’s airport authority will now have a total of 33 PARAFE e-gates to provide automated border control for airline passengers.

A new feature introduced in 2012 allows French citizens holding biometric passports to use PARAFE e-gates without pre-registration, a development that should further increase the use of these e-gates.

“This latest order clearly confirms the success of our cutting-edge solution with both ADP and passengers, as shown by its growing use,” said Jean-Paul Jainsky, Morpho Chairman and CEO. “This latest expression of trust in our product, following its first deployment in a regional airport, really shows that PARAFE has entered a new phase of commercial development.”

There have been more than one million passenger crossings through these gates since the launch of PARAFE in 2009, and the system adds more than 80,000 users a month.
