Qualcomm Life brings its wireless biometric healthcare solution to Canada

Qualcomm Inc. announced today that its 2net Platform and Hub, already available in the U.S. and Europe, are now both available in Canada as well.

The 2net Platform and Hub are wireless healthcare solutions that capture and deliver biometric medical device data to integrated portals or databases from almost any wireless medical device. According to the company, in today’s healthcare technology, “a wealth of biometric data sits trapped and untapped.”

Produced by Qualcomm Life, a subsidiary of the technology giant, 2net is technology agnostic and aims to revolutionize biometric data for healthcare and patient records.

According to a company video, “using gateways such as a mobile phone or the 2net hub, Biometric data is captured, encrypted and stored into the 2net platform. That data now lives in a protected environment and can be encrypted and transmitted”

“Qualcomm Life has expanded its footprint dramatically over the past year, and we now offer our customers and partners one-stop shopping for wireless enablement of their healthcare solutions across the greater part of two continents,” Rick Valencia, VP and general manager of Qualcomm Life said.

Nearly 180 technology partners and customers currently use the 2net system, and the company has recently announced some new adopters of the technology, including Ingram Micro Inc., Healthy Circles, Valued Relationships Inc., Tri-City Medical Center, ActiveCare and MD Revolution.

There are many obvious applications for biometrics in the healthcare field, but the idea of biometric patient identification and medical records has many companies are looking to benefit. As reported previously in BiometricUpdate.com, SmartMetric recently released a USB keyring for storing patient records, activated by a fingerprint. The State of Michigan announced recently that it will soon implement HT Systems’s PatientSecure system, a biometrics-based tool for streamlining patient care records systems.

Also reported in BiometricUpdate.com, the Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in North Carolina has adopted the M2SYS RightPatient identification system in outpatient admissions and radiology departments with the intent to expand.
