Fingerprint Cards receives massive order for area sensors

Categories Biometrics News

Fingerprint Cards has received an order worth US $3.12 million (SEK 20 M) for its FPC1011F3 area sensor from its distributor in China and Taiwan.

The distributor, Hardware & Software Technologies Co. Ltd (HST) has made the order and delivery is scheduled for the second half of 2013.

“The timing of this order is in line with the most optimistic forecast we provided in the financial report for the fourth quarter of 2012 and it confirms our number one position in the Chinese market for capacitive area sensors, where FPC has the dominant market share exceeding 80%,” Johan Carlström, President and CEO of Fingerprint Cards AB said.

Reported last week in BiometricUpdate.com, FPC has been growing at an incredible rate. In the last year, the company has made some significant moves and deals, and has just entered into a placing agreement with Carnegie Investment Bank, with regards to newly issued class B shares.

Also, in January, the company received an initial order for 800,000 units for its FPC 1080A fingerprint swipe sensor from World Wide Touch Technology (Holdings) Ltd and its subsidiaries.

FPC has been getting a lot of attention for its numerous design wins for tablets and mobile devices, and it’s very widely believed that the next round of smartphones and mobile devices will include embedded fingerprint technology.

The Biometrics Research Group has anticipated that integration will be driven by smartphone and tablet manufacturers, and expects that both fingerprint and gesture recognition functionality is a likely evolution at this stage.

It’s also very likely the next iPhone will feature biometric fingerprint technology.
