WinterGreen Research has just published a new study on the global biometrics market, which anticipates the market to reach $16.7 billion by 2019.

According to the report, Biometrics: Market Shares, Strategy and Forecasts Worldwide 2013-2019, the market has been valued at $5.2 billion in 2012 and growth in this space has come as a result of demand for increased security and access control systems.

“Biometric devices represent a major factor impacting law enforcement and border patrol markets,” Susan Eustis, lead author of the WinterGreen Research Team that authored the study said. “Governments and law enforcement agencies are leveraging biometric devices to strengthen all aspects of citizen protection. Healthcare organizations are implementing biometric systems to provide patient privacy.”

It’s pretty widely acknowledged that the global biometrics market is poised for growth, and according to the Biometrics Research Group – which agrees —  says the total market will grow to $15 billion by 2015.

Rawlson King, lead researcher for the Biometrics Research Group recently took an in-depth look at market size, purchasing patterns and biometric technologies for the law enforcement market in the United States. Read the full report here.
