YVR upgrades automated airport kiosks with Cross Match biometrics

The Vancouver Airport Authority has announced an upgrade to its BorderXpress kiosks, with new biometric technology from Cross March that enables international travelers with Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) approval to use BorderXpress.

“Our goal is, and has always been, to lead the transformation of the travel experience,” Craig Richmond, President & CEO of the Vancouver Airport Authority said. “By expanding our Automated PAssPort Control capabilities to include travelers from visa-waiver countries, we are continuing to help airports modernize for improved efficiency and customer satisfaction.”

According to YVR, the new biometric kiosks will help to reduce wait times and congestion at the airport.

Specifically, the kiosk features an integrated fingerprint scanner, which is able to detect and read fingerprints at any angle and regardless or wetness or dryness.

In its first year, YVR says the kiosks have processed more than 4.4 million U.S. passengers.

Reported previously in BiometricUpdate.com, Cross Match recently acquired DigitalPersona and appointed Rich Agnostelli as CEO of the new combined company.
