NexID Biometrics joins the FIDO Alliance

NexID Biometrics has joined the FIDO Alliance, the group announced this week.

“The decision to join FIDO Alliance stems from NexID’s mission to help make biometric authentication pervasive in use,” NexID COO Mark Cornett said. “We believe the FIDO Alliance is a key element to furthering that vision, and we are pleased to join the organization’s members in that effort.”

Reported previously in BiometricUpdate.com, NexID has been busy as of late. Earlier this year, the company launched mobile live finger detection software, boasting an augmented accuracy for fingerprint authentication of more than 95 percent.

In April 2014, NexID received a series of funding grants worth a total of $325,000. According to the company, these funds would be directed to further its R&D efforts into liveness detection, as well as the commercialization of addition modes of authentication.

“We are excited to welcome our newest associate member NexID Biometrics,” Michael Barrett, FIDO Alliance president said. “The FIDO vision of universal strong authentication promises better security, enhanced privacy, more commerce and expansion of services throughout digital industries. NexID Biometrics’ addition to our Alliance supports our industry goal to make user authentication easier and safer for all parties.”

Earlier this year, in February 2014, the FIDO Alliance launched the first public review draft of its technology specification.
