3M Cogent to present new latent searching and fingerprint marking AFIS features at IAI Conference

3M Cogent is set to present the newest features of its automated fingerprint and palmprint identification system client application at the International Association for Identification’s Annual Education Conference, set to take place August 10-16, 2014 in Minneapolis.

According to the company, new features of the client application include left-right reversal latent print searching capability and GYRO fingerprint marking methodology support. 3M says both of these new features have been designed to improve the efficiency of the latent print examination process.

In particular, the left-right reversal latent print searching feature – called 4D searching – was developed as part of a collaboration with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension to address specific examination needs dealing with a case-specific latent print examination process.

As for the GYRO marking addition, 3M Cogent says it is the first company in the industry to support the methodology.

“We are pleased to be the first AFIS to support the use of the GYRO marking system,” Teresa Wu, Global Software Solution Marketer at 3M Cogent said. “We look forward to further collaboration with forensic industry leaders to continue to bring new innovative features to address our customers’ needs and challenges.”
