Fujitsu PalmSecure to provide biometrics technology for Robocoin kiosks

Bitcoin currency and cash dispensing firm Robocoin will use Fujitsu’s PalmSecure biometrics technology to positively authenticate customers on its entire global network of Robocoin ATMs.

The agreement will provide account holders with safe and secure 24-hour access using Fujitsu’s PalmSecure technology.

As a result, Robocoin will be able to provide three factors of authentication — phone, PIN and palm vein — to protect customer accounts against theft and fraud.

“We thoroughly researched other forms of authentication, including other biometric technologies, but determined that Fujitsu’s PalmSecure technology met our requirements for 100% successful enrollment and speed of authentication at point-of-service,” says Jordan Kelley, CEO of Robocoin. “PalmSecure technology for authentication also projects and is consistent with the image we want to project as an innovative company providing world-class services to our account holders.”

The Fujitsu PalmSecure biometric palm vein sensors use a near-infrared light to “read” the individual’s palm vein pattern, which creates a biometric blueprint that is crosschecked against the palm vein patterns of pre-registered users.

One distinguishing characteristic about PalmSecure device is that it does not directly touch the skin, ensuring it is hygienic, non-intrusive and unrestricted by external factors such as skin types and ailments.

The PalmSecure technology is the basis for Fujitsu’s entire line of biometric solutions, including PalmSecure sensors, PalmSecure for SSO and the PalmEntry Physical Access Control system.

Since the palm vein device can only read the pattern if the blood is circulating within the person’s veins, it is extremely difficult to forge the pattern.

This vascular pattern recognition technology provides highly reliable authentication with low false accept and reject rates, as well as rapid and easy enrollment.
