FIS adds biometric access via Touch ID to ATM mobile banking app

FIS Global announced it has added biometric fingerprint authentication to its Cardless Cash ATM mobile banking application via Apple’s TouchID, making it the first firm to offer biometric, cardless ATM access.

The newly integrated fingerprint authentication feature will enable users to access their accounts and withdraw money from an ATM with just their fingerprint and iPhone.

“One-touch Cardless Cash is unlike anything else in the market,” said Douglas Brown, SVP and MP for mobile financial services at FIS. “The ability to access your account and withdraw money with just your fingerprint will make ATM access faster, safer and easier for users. It’s a true homerun.”

As part of the biometric feature’s roll out, FIS has partnered with financial services firm The Bancorp.

“We are committed to providing stellar customer experiences, letting our customers bank when, where and how they want to, with the highest security,” said Pete Chiccino, CIO of The Bancorp.

FIS said that it will extend the biometric access feature to Android users later this year.

Previously reported, financial institutions ING and OCBC also recently launched their own Touch ID-integrated mobile banking apps to enable customers to sign into their accounts using fingerprint recognition.
