Cairo International Airport installs epassport gates

 

The Egyptian government recently installed epassport gates at terminal three in Cairo International Airport, according to a report by The Cairo Post.

The ePassport gates will expedites the customs process, enabling travellers to finalize airport formalities in a shorter time.

Using facial recognition technology, the automated border control process combines the use of paper and electronic passports that contain biometric data used to authenticate the identity of travelers.

Once the check has been made and the traveller’s identity has been authorized, the gates will open automatically for the traveller to either enter or exit.

The inauguration of the airport’s new ePassport gates was attended by Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab, Minister of Civil Aviation Hossam Kamal, and Holding Company for Airports and Aviation CEO Mahmoud Essmat.
