Nok Nok Labs integrates biometric authentication software with Android M Developer Preview

Nok Nok Labs announced it integrated its S3 Authentication Suite with the recently unveiled Google Android M Developer Preview.

When the Nok Nok platform is integrated into a mobile app that is operating on Android M, it will use the new Android fingerprint API and the Fido Universal Authentication Framework (UAF) protocol to authenticate users of the mobile app.

As a result of the upcoming integration, mobile devices running Android M will be able to deliver greater security and improved usability.

The FIDO Alliance’s UAF specification allows end-users to log in or authorize financial transactions in a mobile app using biometric sensors on their local device instead of a password.

Combining the FIDO specifications with the fingerprint API will help support a wide range of FIDO certified authentication methods such as fingerprint, voice, face, and passwords, all from a single SDK, enabling developers to provide strong authentication with minimal work overhead.

The integration extends Nok Nok’s existing FIDO UAF support for iOS, legacy Android devices, and natively Fido UAF-enabled devices, including the Samsung Galaxy S6, Fujitsu Arrows NX and Sharp Aquos Zeta devices.

Previously reported, NTT DOCOMO, Inc. selected Nok Nok Labs’ NNL S3 Authentication Suite to deliver simple and strong authentication to DOCOMO’s 65 million-plus customers in the Japan market.
