Military biometrics market to grow more than 7% CAGR through 2020

Technavio has released a new study entitled ‘Global Military Biometrics Market 2016-2020‘, which forecasts that the global military biometrics market is expected to grow at a CAGR of more than a 7% during the forecast period.

The market research report also includes an up-to-date market analysis and forecasts for various segments and all geographical regions.

“The global military biometrics market is forecasted to grow at a steady pace owing to the growing security concerns and increasing illegal migration of people worldwide,” said Moutushi Saha, a lead analyst at Technavio for defense research. “Many countries have set up biometric infrastructures to control illicit flows of people.”

The market research analysis categorizes the global military biometrics market into four major product segments, including fingerprint identification, facial recognition, iris recognition, and others.

The global fingerprint identification biometrics market in the military sector is expected to grow at a CAGR of 7% during the forecast period, making it the most widely adopted among biometric technologies due to its low cost of hardware systems and easy implementation.

The growing adoption of mobile and hand-held biometrics has further increased the adoption of fingerprint biometric technology.

The US military is planning to upgrade its tactical biometrics with Identity Dominance System 2.

The military has been enrolling Afghanistan citizens’ fingerprints into CrossMatch’s Secure Electronic Enrollment Kit (SEEK-II) system, which includes a built-in fingerprint scanner, digital camera, and iris scanner.

The SEEK II digital fingerprint reader requires the finger to be rolled to get a complete print, in addition to ‘flat’ prints.

The global facial recognition biometrics market in the military sector is expected to grow at a CAGR of nearly 9%.

The facial recognition biometrics is currently widely used in border security and surveillance due to growing terrorist activities and illegal immigration across the Europe, Asia, and North America.

To combat these issues, the governments are increasing investments in implementing surveillance cameras with facial recognition to identify potential criminals.

The global iris recognition biometrics market in the military sector is expected to grow at a CAGR of over 9%. The technology is increasingly being used as it is considered the most accurate identification biometric technology.

Countries across the globe are rapidly adopting iris technology for its security programs, including e-passports, multiple advanced authentication mechanisms, the US Visitor and Immigration Status Indicator Technology (US-VISIT) program, the Next Generation Automated Biometric Identification System (NG-ABIS), the Joint Personnel Identification (JPI) project, the Unique Identification (Number) Authority of India (UIDAI) Project, and ABIS.

The report highlights the market’s several top vendors including 3M Cogent, Crossmatch, M2SYS Technology, NEC, and Safran.

Previously reported, Technavio released a new research report on the global biometrics market in the banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI) sector, which analyzes the most important trends expected to impact the market outlook from 2016 to 2020.
