Biometric Update named “official journalist” for 2017 ID4Africa event

February 20, 2017 -

ID4Africa announced today that it has selected BiometricUpdate.com as the “official journalist” for its 2017 annual meeting, to be held April 26-28, 2017 in Windhoek, Namibia. The three-day event is the third annual government meeting of the ID4Africa movement and the second time that Biometric Update has been named as the “official journalist” of the event.

ID4Africa was co-founded by the Asia Pacific Smart Card Association (APSCA) and Identity Counsel International (ICI) to promote the transparent and responsible adoption of digital identity in Africa.

The aim of ID4Africa is for governments to share experiences and establish real world best practices that set the correct expectations for what is involved in launching successful identity programs. ID4Africa bills itself as a multi-stakeholder movement that promotes the transparent and responsible adoption of digital ID management in the service of development in Africa.

The organization holds its annual meeting to advance high-level dialogue. This takes the form of a forum and an exposition exposition on digital identity and associated applications, also entitled “ID4Africa”. The event provides a comprehensive platform for governments, international development agencies, solution providers and domain experts to exchange ideas and information.

ID4Africa Executive Chairman, Dr. Joseph J. Atick, noted in a statement: “We were very pleased with the coverage BiometricUpdate.com provided for our annual meeting in Kigali. Through their presence on-the-ground, along with remote editorial support, more readers around the world were able to follow event deliberations as they progressed and benefit from in-depth analysis of the issues.” He added: “Biometric Update offers best-of-breed journalism focused on biometric and identity expertise. This is the reason why we selected the news outlet once again to cover our event. We are delighted to have them on board in Namibia.”

Last year, Biometric Update covered delegates from 32 African nations, 22 international development agencies and 80 companies who attended the last event in Kigali, Rwanda, along with providing coverage from the exhibitor space that featured 60 companies.

“As the world’s leading news property that publishes research, trends and analysis about the global biometrics market on a daily basis, Biometric Update is once again pleased to provide on-the ground coverage of the upcoming ID4Africa conference,” said Stephen Mayhew, Publisher of BiometricUpdate.com. “Our objective is for the top editors at Biometric Update to offer complete coverage, in real-time, from the largest and most influential event addressing the topic of digital identity in Africa this April. We look forward to covering the numerous initiatives and issues that will be explored at the conference, along with the wide number of innovations that will be on display at ID4Africa’s exposition.”
