NEXT Biometrics wins $150k fingerprint sensors order

NEXT Biometrics has begun shipping the first volumes of a $150,000 large size fingerprint sensors order for an unnamed Tier 1 semiconductor company.

The new client is apparently working on several projects for the access control and government ID markets where a large size secure fingerprint sensor is needed and required to work for close to 100 per cent of the user base.

“The order is a result of a 12-month design and qualification process,” explained NEXT Biometrics CEO Ritu Favre. “NEXT’s unique combination of large size and low cost fingerprint sensor are a perfect fit. We look forward to close cooperation with innovative partners like this Tier 1 company.”

In March, NEXT Biometrics announced that it had completed testing of its new ASIC, the A2, a custom built chip that will reduce company production costs by more than $2.50 per module.
