Acuity predicts fast growth for biometric border control kiosk market

 

The install base for Automated Border Control (ABC) eGates will increase by 10 percent CAGR over the next five years, and upgrades will bring the increase in total units deployed to nearly 20 percent CAGR, according to research from Acuity Market Intelligence. Automated Passport Control (APC) Kiosks are expected to nearly double by 2020, after increasing from 1243 in 2015 to 2300 in 2017.

The forecasts are part of “The Global Automated Border Control Industry Report” for 2018, which will be available soon.

More than 4800 biometric ABC and APC Kiosks have now been deployed 223 locations in 73 countries. Asia leads the market, with 38 percent of deployments, just ahead of Europe (37 percent), according to the research.

“The age of seamless international travel is imminent,” says Maxine Most, Principal at Acuity Market Intelligence. “The global footprint for biometric-based border automation is expanding as ABC eGates and APC Kiosks have become mainstream and air, land, and sea ports look to increase reliance on these highly successful traveler facilitation solutions.”

APC deployments are increasing in the U.S. and Caribbean, and Canada is both deploying more kiosks and replacing its existing ones, Most says.

“The next major wave of biometric border automation – currently in its infancy – includes integrating biometric check-in, bag drop, and boarding with passport control,” Most adds.

Technavio predicted 9 percent CAGR in the automated security e-gate market from 2017-2021 in October.
