Technavio predicts global 3D facial recognition market to grow 36 percent through 2022

The global market for 3D facial recognition systems will grow at roughly a 36 percent CAGR from 2018 to 2022, driven in large part by adoption of the technology in the healthcare sector, according to research from Technavio.

Global 3D Facial Recognition Systems Market 2018-2022” examines the market according to hardware and software, application, technology, and geography, showing the Americas made up 46 percent of the global market in 2017. It also explores major factors influencing the market, and industry-specific challenges.

“3D facial recognition is used to register a patient initially, whose records can be linked to his biometrics identity subsequently for access over any mobile device,” a senior automatic identification analyst at Technavio commented. “This process increases productivity and efficiency of the employees and improves customer satisfaction. 3D facial recognition can assist in preventing privacy intrusion into patient information and secure the electronic health records of the patients to maintain data security.”

The report identifies the application of face recognition to photos on social networking websites as an emerging market trend, as photos taken from different angles are integrated with advanced 3D facial recognition to further improve accuracy.

Counterpoint research recently predicted that by 2020 nearly 60 percent of all smartphone facial recognition systems will use 3D technology.
