ID4Africa to launch new publication as a manual for identity management

ID4Africa will launch a new publication at the upcoming ID4Africa 2018 event in Abuja, Nigeria, April 24-26, to provide a resource to identity authorities and government agencies planning and implementing identity management programs.

Dubbed the Almanac, the roughly 200-page publication will be available in both English and French to attendees of the conference. It presents a range of curated articles covering all aspects of the subject, with a focus on the theme of the annual event, which for 2018 is “Harmonization of Identity Schemes.”

The inaugural Almanac will feature 38 articles written by representatives of ID4Africa, the World Bank, and industry experts, and also includes an industry directory, a buyer’s guide, and helpful tips and information.

It will serve as a guide to the annual event, its themes, speakers, and companies, but also as a year-round resource for governments and identity authorities, according to ID4Africa Executive Chairman Dr. Joseph Atick.

“We are only scratching the surface in terms of access,” Atick told Biometric Update. “What the delegates were telling us, the directors and the director generals, is that any materials they could take back with them could help train those they could not bring to the event.”

The Almanac is also intended to provide an annual record of progress toward the ultimate goal of establishing legal identity for all. Atick notes that because internet access is not ubiquitous across Africa, a paper manual can function as a manual for issues related to the creation of digital identity.

ID4Africa will distribute the Almanac free of charge to delegates at the movement’s annual meeting. As Official Journalist of ID4Africa 2018, Biometric Update will be reporting live from Abuja throughout the event.
