Tascent launches new mobile biometric platform
Tascent announced the availability of Tascent MX, the latest in its family of mobile biometric devices. Tascent MX combines advanced iris, fingerprint, and face biometrics with smartphones to form a platform for a wide range of identity registration and authentication applications.
Tascent is partnering with OtterBox, the provider of the uniVERSE Case System, to support a broad range of smartphones across multiple operating systems and form factors, including the Samsung Galaxy S series and other Android devices. With this modular approach, Tascent MX enables multi-generation device compatibility, offering flexibility as platforms evolve.
According to the announcement, Tascent MX addresses the global demand for establishing and verifying identity on-the-go in a secure, scalable, accurate, and easy-to-use way. Potential applications range from travel and financial services to public safety and humanitarian aid.
Tascent MX integrates the functions of traditional desktop or suitcase-based enrollment systems within a compact, hand-held device. Featuring Tascent’s iris imaging system and Integrated Biometrics’ FAP 45 certified Sherlock fingerprint sensor, Tascent MX meets international standards for biometric imaging and product performance. With this advanced technology suite, Tascent MX achieves dual-eye iris capture and dual-print or rolled fingerprint capture, even in bright sunlight.
Tascent MX’s open architecture approach enables partners to develop custom applications across leading smartphone operating systems with the Tascent Mobile SDK.
“Tascent MX is enabling us to address a wide variety of customers and applications in public safety, civil ID, travel services, and beyond,” says Jin Phang Low, executive VP/GM of ST Electronics (Info-Software Systems) Pte Ltd. “Easy to use and easy to develop on, it allows us to put our customer’s needs first and rapidly deliver outstanding biometric identity solutions.”
Core to Tascent MX is the use of OtterBox’s uniVERSE Case System, which combines trusted protection with a modular system that transforms smartphones into mobile powerhouses by securely attaching accessories on the case. Accessories can easily be detached or swapped out using a discrete rail system, leaving the smartphone slim, protected, and fully functional.
Tascent MX will be shown this week at the ID4Africa Annual Meeting in Abuja, Nigeria and at the connect:ID Exhibition in Washington, DC next week. Production shipments are planned for summer 2018.
