Goodix enters Samsung’s supply chain; fingerprint sensor featured in Galaxy J7 Duo

Goodix announced today that its GW32J1 fingerprint sensor has been deployed in Samsung’s new Galaxy J7 Duo smartphone for the market in India.

According to a company statement, the “entry into (Samsung’s) supply-chain adds fuel to Goodix’s sustainable growth and is a milestone in the company’s overseas market expansion.”

This follows news earlier this month that Goodix’s optical in-display fingerprint sensor is featured in the new “PORSCHE DESIGN HUAWEI” Mate RS flagship smartphone, which also features a flexible display.

Recent research by IHS Markit suggests that the fingerprint sensor market is facing a major disruption. New competitors have entered the market and gained share in 2016 and 2017, challenging the past market dominance of Synaptics and Fingerprint Cards. The largest among these challengers is Goodix, which challenged Fingerprint Cards for market lead last year, while Silead and Egistec gained share.
