Telpo biometric terminal secures China’s national college entrance exams
The National College Entrance Examination (NCEE), commonly known as Gaokao, is an academic exam held annually in the People’s Republic of China. This year’s exam saw the introduction of biometric facial recognition technology to verify the identity of examinees and proctors.
For the 2018 June exam, Telpo TPS450 biometric terminals were deployed to crack down on cheating and ensure fairness in the “Gaokao”. Student faces and fingerprints were pre-registered and crosschecked using the biometrics reader in the examination halls. Proctor’s identites were verified first with the terminal’s ID card reader, and then by a face scan.
The biometrics-based identity verification system was introduced in an effort to solve the problem of “ghostwriting” in the college entrance examination and improve the identification and verification of candidates.
