WhatsApp adds biometric authentication with latest iOS update
The most recent version of WhatsApp on iOS has added support for Apple’s biometric authentication technologies, TechCrunch reports.
The new setting, called ‘Screen Lock’, users of version 2.19.20 of the WhatsApp iOS messaging app can add an additional layer of security by requiring either their face biometrics or a fingerprint to unlock the app.
If you have an iPhone X or newer, Face ID is available, otherwise if you use an iPhone with a fingerprint sensor, the Touch ID option is visible.
WABetaInfo notes that enabling the feature won’t prevent you from replying to notifications or answering WhatsApp calls without authentication. Users are also able to set a time period before the app locks down and asks for authentication.
