Idiap Biometrics Center receives FIDO Alliance accreditation
The Idiap Biometrics Center at the Idiap Research Institute in Switzerland has been accredited for certification in biometrics by the FIDO Alliance, making it the third FIDO Accredited Biometric Laboratory in the world.
The research body specializes in artificial intelligence, and launched its Biometrics Center in 2014, with the support of the Canton of Valais and the city of Martigny. The accreditation from FIDO is the result of a year-long process, and is part of the Institute’s long-term strategic plan of becoming a key player in the certification of biometric systems. A number of Idiap staff have been trained in FIDO’s standards and certification processes, and its facilities were upgraded with the support of the Swiss Loterie Romande.
Idiap credits the FIDO Alliance as the reference in international authentication standards and certification processes, ensuring the reliability of biometric technologies. Windows Hello recently received FIDO2 certification for biometric online account access.
A dedicated biometric testing laboratory in the Institute hosts data acquisition equipment and a range of tools, such as masks for presentation attack tests on facial recognition systems. The Institute says it provides expertise in voice and visual recognition, human-machine interaction, robotics, and language analysis, among other fields.
iBeta received FIDO Alliance biometric test lab accreditation last September.
