IDrive releases biometric facial recognition API for businesses and developers

Online cloud storage and backup company, IDrive, has launched IDrive Face, a face recognition API for businesses and developers that makes it easier for them to incorporate the biometric technology in their products. The new service comes almost a year after IDrive released IDrive People, a tool that detects people’s faces in photos.

According to a company announcement, the IDrive Face service is developed with complex algorithms aimed at delivering high facial recognition accuracy. Users have the option to include a number of features such as face comparison, analysis and identification of multiple faces in images, face verification to confirm face identity in match comparison, face analysis to classify gender and age, and facial expression analysis to establish a variety of emotions.

The company assures users the data is secured with end-to-end SSL encryption and API transactions use a user-generated API-Key authorization. With more than 3 million customers that allegedly back up more than 100 Petabytes of data, IDrive Online Backup claims to offer accuracy and performance similar to AWS Rekognition, only at a lower price. Interested users can choose between the developer plan, the business plan, and the enterprise plan.

The biometric face analysis capabilities of Rekognition were recently upgraded with improved accuracy and functionality, including detection of fear
