Milestone integrates Captis database of 30M mugshots for facial recognition video investigations
A new plugin application for instantly identifying individuals in video streams within second with a single click has been launched through a partnership between Captis Intelligence and video management service provider Milestone.
The new Captis ODSI (on-demand subject identification) is an embedded solution exclusively for Milestone’s XProtect VMS. The product is already in use at more than 22,000 locations in North America, according to the announcement, including the facilities of dozens of Fortune 500 organizations, to identify thousands of criminals.
Milestone announced the integration of facial biometric technology from Innovatrics with XProtect earlier this year.
The Captis Database holds more than 30 million images, which the company says makes it the largest privately held database of criminals in North America.
The Milestone XProtect VMS platform adds a seamlessly embedded post-incident identification system, the companies say. Users pause the video recording of an incident, then click the Captis logo below the feed to run an instant ODSI scan against the database. Resulting match percentages are displayed in XProtect.
“We are proud of the new subject identification capabilities that this unique breakthrough in video forensics brings to Milestone XProtect users,” states Dario Brebric, president of Captis Intelligence. “Captis ODSI has already reduced incident rates by up to 70 percent in initial deployments, and we look forward to continuing this trajectory of success.”
Captis says the tool has decreased the time necessary for criminal investigations from weeks to seconds, and that it eliminates the need to scan and catalogue pictures of the public by focusing on subjects with publicly available criminal records.
The Captis ODSI plugin is now available to customers in North America through the Milestone Marketplace.
