BIO-key signs up federal contractor to PortalGuard platform for secure multi-factor authentication

The PistolStar acquisition continues to bring in new deals for BIO-key International, with defense and aerospace contractor Fore Aero selecting its PortalGuard IAM platform to secure employee authentication.

Fore Aero makes flight safety and support parts for the national defense and aerospace markets, and according to the announcement selected PortalGuard as the most secure, flexible, user friendly and cost-effective solution among several considered.

A multi-factor authentication solution was necessary for Fore Aero to meet its enhanced security requirements as a federal contractor. Windows 10 workstations needed to be secured with the integration of a flexible MFA solution, including workstations on the factory floor, where there is no internet access. This ruled out all vendor applications depending on smartphone-based push authentication messages.

PortalGuard’s IAM platform supports the hard tokens deployed by Fore Aero, as well as OTP, cards, passwords and biometrics.

BIO-key acquired PortalGuard with its $2.5 million deal for PistolStar earlier this year. Since then, it has signed up several higher education institutions.

“Our R&D Engineering team takes great pride in developing IAM solutions that meet the unique security challenges of every customer environment,” states Mark Cochran, president of PortalGuard. “Our team understands that each customer’s security infrastructure requires a layer of flexibility and customization to mitigate risk and incorporate best practices.  PortalGuard IAM solutions deliver an affordable yet customizable solution, including capturing the organization’s branding within our authentication modules. Our goal is that our IAM solutions become a frictionless and seamless part of the end-user experience while maintaining the highest security standards.”

BIO-key recently announced a better-than-expected $24.8 million public offering.
