IDnow buys Wirecard Communication Services to grow biometric identity verification business

IDnow has purchased Leipzig-based Wirecard Communication Services to address the high demand increase for its biometric digital verification procedures, boost service quality and reduce waiting times, the company announced.

“With the integration of Wirecard Communication Services into the IDnow Group, we are seizing the opportunity to further improve our range and service quality for our customers,” Andreas Bodczek, CEO of IDnow, said in a prepared statement. “We have worked in close collaboration with this division of the company for several years and greatly appreciate the qualifications and experience of its employees. We are on a strong growth path and will maintain and further develop the Leipzig location.”

IDnow will retain most of Wirecard Communication Services’ employees. The two companies have been collaborating for five years prior to the acquisition.

“We are delighted to have found in IDnow a buyer who appreciates and knows our company and has such a friendly culture,” Amra Blume, Managing Director Wirecard Communications Services said in the announcement. “Personally, I am very pleased to stay on board and work in the team at IDnow.”

Part of the Wirecard Group, Wirecard Communication Services was founded on April 29, 2003. The division was offered for sale by way of an asset deal. Staff was informed about the purchase during a meeting by insolvency administrator, attorney Dr. Nils Freudenberg from Tiefenbacher Insolvency Administration.

Next steps include providing employee support to adapt the technical infrastructure and expanding the Leipzing office to enable faster tech implementation and development of Ident services.

This summer, IDnow announced impressive growth numbers, respectively 385 percent year-over-year.
