OWI launches lab and startup program for digital identity standards and innovation

One World Identity has launched a new laboratory to support the development of standards and innovation in digital identity with highly personalized programs, the organization says in an announcement.

The new Digital Identity Standards, Technology, and Innovation Lab (DISTIL) is intended as a community of individuals focused on using digital identity to create better user experiences, and will run an Immersive Experience Lab, a startup accelerator program, and roundtables.

Each initiative will be rolled out by the DISTIL program to build an active and engaged community welcoming new companies and innovators, according to the announcement.

“The vision of the new OWI is coming into focus, starting with the launch of DISTIL. This initiative represents years of planning and development,” says OWI Chief Executive Officer Travis Jarae, “with the support of our amazing partners, clients, and community, DISTIL will represent the epicenter for identity innovation. We’re excited for others to join as we lead this next chapter for our industry.”

OWI plans to hold the startup accelerator twice each year, kicked off by an inaugural class in April 2021. A group of disruptive startups will be selected to participate in the 12-week program with OWI Ventures, and receive funding through the digital identity-focused early-stage venture capital firm. Participating start-ups will also be granted access to the Immersive Experience Lab and be able to connect with mentors from a community of more than 300 subject-matter experts, as well as gaining access to proprietary information to accelerate innovation.
