Cloud-based consumer identity solutions provider LoginRadius says it has found a way to make authentication to mobile apps with native mobile device biometrics easy.

The company launched an app-based Mobile Biometric Authentication feature for businesses to allow consumers self-authentication via existing face and fingerprint biometrics on Android and iOS devices.

This will mean individuals’ biometric data will remain on the phone rather than being transmitted to an app server for security against data breaches.

“The increased availability of biometric capabilities on smartphones and other mobile devices suggests that the time is ripe for enabling mobile biometric authentication for consumers,” CTO of LoginRadius Deepak Gupta says. “We are happy to be at the forefront of this exciting trend. We are enabling businesses to offer better security and a convenient mobile onboarding and passwordless authentication experience.”

Gupta previously wrote an analysis of digital payment methods for a cash-free world where biometrics would be made mainstream in a Biometric Update guest post.

The Mobile Biometric Authentication app includes TouchID authenticating fingerprints, as well as FaceID using consumers’ existing facial image, reducing the need for a setup process. According to LoginRadius, businesses are able to configure both authentication options in order to let consumers choose.

LoginRadius has been named as a leading industry player in consumer identity and access management (CIAM) by Gartner, KuppingerCole, Computer Weekly, and is partners with Microsoft.
