3M Cogent‘s MiY-Touch biometric access control reader won the Judge’s Choice Award at the Security Industry Association’s 2013 “New Product Showcase” last week at ISC West in Las Vegas.

“Each year, the companies competing in SIA’s New Product Showcase at ISC West present leading-edge security solutions that are shaping the industry,” SAI CEO Don Erickson said. “These new technologies and solutions are the drivers that are moving the security industry forward, and I congratulate 3M Cogent on their win at this year’s [event].”

The MiY-Touch is an indoor access control system with Sandbox API framework support and an optional detachable contact/contactless smart card reader that meets current SP800-116 standards.

Reported previously in BiometricUpdate.com, the company’s outdoor iteration of the MiY access control system was recently selected by SSA Marine to manage the Port of Long Beach in California.

A recent market report estimates that the global electronic access control market will reach $16.3 billion by 2017, growing at a CAGR of 7% from 2012 to 2017. According to the report, the growth is mainly attributed to heightened security concerns backed by government and regulatory mandates, and biometrics is also a major contributor to this growth.
