Chinese biometric market set for growth: report

Research and Markets has announced the addition of a research report on the Chinese biometrics market, and notes that demand has risen greatly for biometrics in the country.

The report, “China Biometrics Market Forecast & Opportunities, 2018” shows that the fingerprint identification markets captures the highest overall share in the Chinese biometric market in terms of revenue earned during 2012. According to the report, this can be mainly attributed to its economical pricing and maximum usage in access control and time & attendance systems.

Expecting the fingerprint identification market in China to grow at a CAGR of around 38%, reaching up by six folds revenue by the end of 2018, the report indicates that Anhui, Shandong and Shanghai are the leading provinces in terms of revenue in the biometrics market.

Also from the report, a particularly large biometric project in the country is for its e-passports, which will become a major driver for the market. Reported in BiometricUpdate.com, China initiated the ePassport program last year.

As we’ve also reported in BiometricUpdate.com, China is planning biometric eID cards for its citizens, following a successful pilot test.

As of yet, it is unclear how these new cards are being manufactured, or to which company this contract has been awarded.
