Vigilant Solutions launches license plate and facial recognition app

Vigilant Solutions has launched the Vigilant Mobile Companion app, which provides license plate recognition capture and analytic tools as well as FaceSearch facial recognition.

The new Vigilant Mobile Companion app expands the benefits of license plate recognition and facial recognition technologies to all areas of the agency, including patrol, investigative, and detention.

Using many of the new analytic tools that Vigilant has released in its LEARN product over the last couple of years, the app makes these tools even more easy to use and accessible on a mobile device.

The app also features Vigilant’s FaceSearch facial recognition which analyzes over 350 different vectors of the human face.

Police officers in field can take a photo of a person and have his or her face matched against a database of over 13 million pre-populated mugshots and registered sex offender images, along with any other images that an agency uploads to the database.

The company recently unveiled the new Mobile Companion app at the 2014 International Association of Chiefs of Police Conference in Orlando.

“Vigilant has offered an app for the last several years that allowed users to scan a license plate and have it compared against agency-managed hotlists,” said Tom Joyce, Vigilant VP of product development and retired cold case commander from the New York City Police Department. “While unique in the industry, this app had limited practical application for most officers. We wanted to create an app that every officer could use – and we have accomplished that.”

Vigilant Mobile Companion’s launch follows Vigilant Solutions’ introduction of its Intelligence-Led Policing Package which enables agencies to purchase and deploy complete turnkey license plate recognition and facial recognition programs.
