TPK forecasting huge increase in fingerprint recognition touch panel orders

Taiwanese touch panel maker TPK is forecasting a significant rise in the number of orders for products with fingerprint recognition capabilities from China-based smartphone vendors throughout 2015, according to a report by Digitimes.

TPK said it expects that from 2015 to 2017, fingerprint recognition technology will experience a CAGR of 80% driven mostly by demand from Chinese smartphone vendors like Coolpad and ZTE.

The company has identified pricing as the most crucial factor impacting the technology’s acceptance into the Chinese market as local vendors are currently offering low-priced solutions in an effort to command the majority market share.

Additionally, TPK is expected to be one of the main suppliers of fingerprint recognition sensors, along with O-Film, in conjunction with Synaptics, which is set to release newer products in the second half of 2015.

TPK designs, develops and markets projective capacitive touch solutions that are integrated into mobile and consumer electronics devices, such as smartphones, tablet PCs, notebook PCs, ultrabook PCs and electronic book readers.
