ViewSonic to debut smartphone that features iris recognition technology

ViewSonic is currently developing a new smartphone that will feature next generation Iris recognition technology, according to a teaser video by the company.

Owners of the ViewSonic V55 smartphone will be able to unlock the device and access data using an iris scanner to capture their eye patterns, making it nearly impossible for anyone other than the owner to gain access to the phone.

The smartphone will feature an iris scanner on the top right corner that is hidden from view. To unlock the phone, the user simply slides the small piece covering the scanner and a light will turn on, signaling its activation.

In addition to securing access to the phone, the iris recognition feature is said to protect the files and folders stored on the device.

Users can secure highly sensitive files using the Iris recognition function, which would require the user to capture their eye using the scanner to unlock these private files.

The phone’s Iris recognition technology is reported to be used for several other authentication functions, which ViewSonic will disclose at the time of the official announcement.

The ViewSonic V55, whose price has yet to be announced, is expected to launch some time later this month.
