KT&C, SRI International bring biometrics to residential door locks

Korea Technology and Communications and SRI International have partnered to launch KEES, an iris recognition door lock powered by SRI’s Iris on the Move (IOM) technology.

The companies will introduce the residential security product at ISC West 2015, held April 15-17 in Las Vegas.

“Building and property owners are increasingly challenged to deploy market-leading access control products and technology that do not place an undue burden on residents,” said H.S. Kwon, CEO of KT&C. “By creating a smart lock with SRI’s iris technology, we are able to extend a level of secure access previously reserved for business-critical and government facilities to the residential marketplace at a competitive price.”

The KEES residential door lock provides the accuracy of iris biometrics, along with the ease of a push-pull handle for keyless access, ensuring they will no longer have to search for their keys or enter a PIN.

Using the integrated SRI IOM technology, the door lock allows the individual to glance and go, which is a more seamless process than other iris recognition readers which require users to stop or to position their eyes close to a camera.

“By collaborating with KT&C, we are incorporating leading iris biometric technology in a residential door lock for unparalleled convenience and security,” said Mark Clifton, president of SRI International’s products and solutions division at SRI International. “KEES marks a new level of access control for the residential sector. It demonstrates the growing viability of iris biometrics for more market applications.”

Beginning on April 15th, KEES door lock will be available for order for $989. The companies will add more features for the KEES lock system in the future.

Previously reported, SRI International’s Mark Clifton demonstrated “Iris on the Move” on the Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 at last month’s Connect:ID expo in Washington, DC.
