Zicom, Biometronic to provide IriTech iris recognition products in India

 

Zicom Electronic Security Systems Limited has signed an agreement with Biometronic Technology Pvt. Ltd in which Zicom will distribute Biometronic’s IriShield family of iris recognition products for an initial period of two years.

According to the terms of the agreement, Biometronic will manufacture the products in India under a license from IriTech, Inc. (USA).

The increasing need for authentication, access control and security by government and commercial enterprises has helped drive growth of the iris biometrics market in India.

Zicom will focus on four main verticals to market its iris-based products and solutions. First, the company will supply products for the government sector for various schemes that require government to citizen services, such as the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and National Population Register (NPR) projects.

Zicom will provide various biometric products for the banking, financial services and insurance sector, including biometric ATMs and PoS.

For the telecom sector, the biometric products will help to identify all customers under the electronic know-your-customer (eKYC) process, which is based on Aadhaar or UID number.

And finally, Zicom will provide iris recognition products to Homeland Security for use in AFIS- police criminal record, border security, and immigration check.

Zicom will also work with different third party firms to develop systems and solutions based on iris recognition products, offering the same to customers as system integrators, solution provider or service provider under its brand name.

The companies have already executed their first pilot order, supplying 6,100 iris recognition biometric devices to Public Distribution System (PDS) for the government of Andhra Pradesh through Andhra Pradesh Technology Service Ltd, as well as have received a letter of intent for an additional 16,800 devices.

“This alliance will help Zicom to launch Iris technology based products and solutions to upcoming authentication market in India,” said Pramoud Rao, managing director of Zicom Electronic Security Systems Limited. “With various government and business verticals adopting AADHAR as a primary means of identifying residence, processes such as eKYC, AADHAR enabled payment system, and AADHAR enabled biometric attendance system will use these products to prove the identity of the user/beneficiary.

“This alliance will help both companies to reach out to government and corporate customers with our solutions. With the increase in endpoint applications, biometric readers like iris will enjoy huge uptake as globally iris & voice recognition technology are in an exception growth phase.”
