GenKey provides biometric healthcare management system to Kenyan hospital insurance fund

GenKey announced it will provide its biometric-based healthcare system to the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) of Kenya.

The solution is comprised of an electronic healthcare information management system, including a biometric smart card solution for member registration, biometric deduplication, identification and verification; a healthcare management system for creating electronic claims at the hospitals; and in the future a core insurance application for processing claims at the NHIF.

Under the agreement terms, GenKey will deliver hardware, software, training and support services together with a local partner.

“We are very excited about this project, which aims to facilitate the Kenya NHIF with an accessible, affordable and high-quality health management information system that will help increase efficiency and curb fraud”, says Michiel van der Veen, CEO of GenKey. “It is an important milestone for GenKey, which brings us one step closer to our ambition of becoming the leading provider of digital healthcare solutions for Africa and other emerging markets.”

GenKey’s healthcare solution is based on the company’s core solutions and biometric technologies, including the Enrollment Solution (Necto), the Member Management Solution (SPiRE), the Automated Biometric Identification Solution (ABIS) for deduplication, the Adjudication Solution, the Biometric Verification Software and the Claim Code Solution.

NHIF will be able to take advantage of the many benefits of integrating the biometric identity component into the healthcare system, including improved patient safety as a result of strong identification, improved cost effectiveness by decreasing ghost claims and ghost identities, and improved efficiency and transparency of the claim handling process.

The biometric registration of the 4 million NHIF members and dependents will begin on September 1st.

Previously reported, GenKey released a new version of its FastAFIS SDK.
