Nigeria piloting Bio-Metrica’s biometric census registration system
Bio-Metrica has deployed its modular, multi-factor biometric census registration system in a pilot project for Nigeria’s upcoming 2018 population census.
The Nigerian government has tasked the National Population Commission to perform the 2018 Census using biometrics in an effort to reduce fraud and ensure proper identification of all citizens. Census takers will use Bio-Metrica developed handheld terminals to remotely enroll and verify the identity of citizens, with or without data connectivity, using both fingerprints and facial impressions. All information will be collected via a custom-built Census Registration System deployed by Bio-Metrica and its local Nigerian partner, Chronowerx Nigeria Limited.
In a Q&A interview last year with BiometricUpdate.com, Bio-Metrica founder and CEO Ronny Yacobi discussed the advantages of using a multi-factor authentication framework, key trends in the biometrics market and the main challenges creating a Mobile Biometrics Unit (MBU) for the registration of pensioners for the Ghana Social Security National Trust.
