LPGA deploying NEC facial recognition technology for identity verification

NEC Corporation of America (NEC) facial recognition technology is being deployed at this week’s ANA Inspiration at Mission Hills Country Club to verifiy the identity of credentialed media covering the LPGA’s first major golf championship of the year.

NEC’s NeoFace Watch video facial recognition technology will be positioned at the main entrance to the ANA Inspiration Media Center and the Mission Hills Country Club, where faces of individuals will be captured and extracted from the video feed and matched in real-time.

“NEC’s facial recognition solutions allow organizations to focus on the people, patterns and predictions that are needed to create a safe and enjoyable environment,” explained Raffie Beroukhim, senior vice president, Advanced Recognition Systems, NEC. “The demonstration at the ANA Inspiration event in Rancho Mirage is a prime example of how our advanced recognition systems can bring these benefits to a world-class sporting event.”

Earlier this month, NEC’s face recognition technology achieved the highest performance evaluation in the recent Face in Video Evaluation (FIVE) testing performed by the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
