IriTech, HD Barcode to demo iris verification ID card solution at MWC Shanghai

IriTech and barcode technology provider HD Barcode will demonstrate their iris verification ID card solution, HD IrisCheck, at Mobile World Congress Shanghai 2017.

Held June 28 to July 1 at Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC), MWC Shanghai is a conference and exhibition focused on the worldwide mobile industry.

The move comes a month after Iritech and HD Barcode launched HD IrisCheck, which they claim is the world’s first ID card with biometric iris data embedded in a proprietary 2D code.

HD IrisCheck will enable organizations to issue ID cards with encrypted iris data embedded in a proprietary 2D barcode called HD Barcode.

The solution delivers significantly improved security over other public codes while being more cost-effective than IC chip smartcards.

Embedding encrypted iris data into a secure barcode ensures that information is readily available without a database, internet connection and even during power outages.

Additionally, using a mobile device with an integrated iris camera or connecting a mobile with a USB enabled iris camera such as IriShield enables authorized personnel to instantly verify the person’s identification with HD IrisCheck.

The solution uses the mobile device’s standard camera to read and decrypt the iris-barcode and its integrated iris camera (or an external IriShield camera) for matching.

HD IrisCheck is particularly helpful in this current climate where rising privacy issues have resulted in governments, institutions and private entities being reluctant to create and maintain databases due to potential breaches of personal information.

Meanwhile, many governments or institutions that have developed a database have experienced issues in fully implementing it as network infrastructures are scarce in rural areas of developing nations.
