IrisGuard honored for blockchain payment tech

IrisGuard has won the International Innovator of the Year award at the second annual LendIt Fintech Industry Awards for its blockchain retail technology.

The award recognizes IrisGuard’s work in using iris recognition to release a 32-byte Ethereum blockchain private key to secure the last mile of blockchain authentication. This technology, in combination with IrisGuard’s EyePay point-of-sale (POS) platform, enables supermarket transactions to be processed via Ethereum secure ledger in real time, according to the announcement.

“IrisGuard has long been leading the way in iris recognition technology and iris-enabled trusted payment platforms for many years, so to be internationally recognised in this way really affirms it for us,” said IrisGuard Founder and Managing Director Imad Malhas. “This award could not have come at a better time for IrisGuard as we look to the future with the launch of our mobile Android phones and tablets and revolutionise the world of secure mobile payment applications.”

The U.N. has been using IrisGuard’s Ethereum technology to streamline payment services for Syrian refugees in Jordan, and the World Bank Group’s IFC reached an agreement earlier this year to provide EyePay POS devices throughout Jordan to further support the aid program.

Earlier this year IrisGuard’s blockchain solution was recognized by the World Food Programme (WFP) among “10 innovations changing the way the U.N. delivers food.” The WFP also recognized the UNHCR’s “SCOPE” biometric platform, which is being used to register Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh for food distribution with fingerprints.
