Azerbaijan begins issuing biometric ID cards

 

Azerbaijan began issuing biometrics-based electronic identity cards on September 1, according to an AzerNews report.

Citizens can apply for the new identity document at all territorial police authorities and ASAN service centers.

Identity card No. 1 was presented to the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on August 31.

The cards contain information on citizen’s place of residence, marital status, as well as face photos and fingerprints from one finger of each hand if the citizen is over the age of 15.
