JCB honored for biometric card system based on IDEMIA technology

IDEMIA announced that its partner JCB won two awards for its biometric card system at the 5th annual Cards and Electronic Payments Asia Awards (CEPI).

IDEMIA and JCB have worked together on different projects since 2016 and in 2018 began working together on a biometric card proof of concept based on IDEMIA’s F.CODE solution which replaces PIN or signature authentication with a fingerprint to deliver greater security without impacting the frictionless payment experience of contactless cards.

“We are proud to be rewarded for a revolutionary biometric card system, based on IDEMIA’s technology,” commented Tac Watanabe, EVP of brand infrastructure and technologies at JCB.

“These two awards demonstrate that our partnership with JCB is working perfectly,” added Patrice Meilland, VP powered cards business line at IDEMIA.

Biometric Update recently spoke with IDEMIA president of financial institutions for North America Megan Heinze for her perspective on the factors that will determine how quickly the biometric payment card market will advance in 2019.
