BioConnect launches physical access control product to extend biometrics to existing systems

BioConnect has launched a Unified Mobile Access solution to add biometric physical access control to existing systems. The company suggests that in addition to door access, it can be used to secure data centers, IDF & MDF closets, server cabinets, machinery, vaults, and other equipment with step-up authentication leveraging previously implemented access control systems, readers or cards.

Access is granted via approved authenticators, with BioConnect offering Duo Security as an example.

BioConnect says that access cards and fobs are used much as they were 20 years ago, and are easily stolen or replicated. BioConnect can now add further authentication processes to systems leveraging these technologies, and also provide time-of-day scheduling capabilities, user management and unification of physical and digital authentication and access transactions.

“BioConnect is committed to enabling trust in the connected world. Our unified mobile access solution extends the reach of leading modern authentication providers, approved globally by IT departments, to physical access points providing an identity driven security perimeter for the enterprise” says BioConnect Chairman and CEO Rob Douglas. “We designed the solution to work with existing access control infrastructure, leveraging our current partnerships and integrations with over 80 percent of top access control systems providing a simple retrofit and swift deployment option for the world’s physical access infrastructure.”

The Canadian government announced an investment of just under $4 million in BioConnect to support the country’s Digital Charter earlier this month.
