BIO-key brings PortalGuard veteran in as VP to market integrated biometrics and IAM solution

BIO-key has created the new position Vice President of Product Marketing and appointed IAM industry and PortalGuard veteran Kimberly Johnson to grow the newly combined platforms of BIO-key and its recently-acquired PortalGuard solution.

In the new role, Johnson will be responsible for all areas of product market, go-to-market strategy and execution, positioning, messaging, demand creation and marketing programs, according to the announcement.

Johnson brings extensive experience in the identity and access management (IAM) field, including an integral role in the formative growth years of PortalGuard, prior to BIO-key’s acquisition of it with PistolStar for $2.5 million earlier this year. She also was responsible for global product launches at GlobalSign, and led Imprivata’s largest line of business. Most recently, Johnson was principal product marketing manager at BitSight.

“BIO-key is on a mission to disrupt and improve the way organizations tackle identity and access management,” comments Johnson in the press release. “Having started my career working with PortalGuard, and now returning as part of BIO-key, I am fully immersed in our value proposition and excited to work with BIO-key’s impressive team of tenured, dedicated experts – core attributes that have caused so many companies to trust BIO-key to secure their business. I am thrilled to join such an experienced leadership team and build on a very strong foundation and culture, to take BIO-key to new heights.”

BIO-key has signed up a number of colleges, a municipal government and a federal contractor for PortalGuard IAM, all within the past month.

“Kimberly will play a significant role leading the growth efforts of an exciting lineup of IAM products featuring biometrics,” BIO-key Chairman and CEO Michael DePasquale says. “Her experience with PortalGuard gives her an important head start. Further, she complements our existing leadership team and fills a new position that will be extremely valuable today and as we launch into new markets.”
