Imprivata acquires Fairwarning to upgrade digital identity solution for healthcare

Imprivata has acquired patient privacy intelligence firm FairWarning to improve its healthcare-focused digital ID offering.

The digital identity solution offered by Imprivata will now integrate Fairwarning’s analytics and insider threat detection platform.

Fairwarning’s algorithm is capable of analyzing large quantities of data from EMR, CRM, HR, among others, and applies data logic and machine learning to identify potential information breaches, according to the announcement.

The company also oversees the analysis of Patient Data Privacy Intelligence and Drug Diversion analytics to assist compliance officers in the protection of Protected Health Information (PHI).

Imprivata, on the other hand, focuses on the development of biometric and digital identity security solutions for the healthcare industry. In October, the company partnered with biometric device supplier Keyo on a new contactless biometric palm scanner to improve the safety of patient matching.

Given the firms’ adjacent fields of expertise, the acquisition of Fairwarning will now aid Imprivata to enhance its digital identity management solutions for health delivery organizations.

“Like Imprivata, FairWarning is focused on delivering a world-class experience that ensures customers benefit from the full value of the investment in their solutions,” said Gus Malezis, CEO of Imprivata.

“We’re excited to make FairWarning a key component of our go-forward analytics and Digital Identity strategy, and to be able to offer our customers a broader set of solutions from a single vendor that is committed to delivering innovative products and a signature customer experience.”

Imprivata digital identity framework includes a series of different tools. These include identity governance, Mobile IAM and provisioning, and secure healthcare communications.

Also, multi-factor authentication solutions, positive patient identification, and enterprise single sign-on (SSO).

“Our platform fits perfectly into Imprivata’s digital identity framework for healthcare and complements Imprivata’s focus on making identity accessible and secure across regulated workflows,” said FairWarning CEO Ed Holmes, commenting on the news. “We’re excited to join forces with Imprivata to offer a more comprehensive and integrated solution to our joint customers, and to continue to advance innovation in the digital identity and privacy space,” he added.
