DigitalPersona fingerprint scanners get certified by STQC

DigitalPersona, Inc., has announced that its Eikon Touch 500 with TouchChip TCS1 Sensor and U.are.U 4500 Reader UID edition fingerprint scanners have been certified by the Standardisation Testing and Quality Certification (STQC) directorate in India.

This certification was obtained in cooperation with DigitalPersona’s partner in India, Smart Identity Devices Pvt. Ltd. (Smart ID). According to the company, DigitalPersona is the first and only to pass accuracy, durability, safety and usability tests for both optical and silicon fingerprint scanners. The company also says its solutions are currently being used by thousands of organizations and over 150 million users.

“We are very pleased to have worked with Smart ID to receive STQC certification,” Richard Agostinelli, president and CEO at DigitalPersona said. “We now look forward to supporting the commendable goals of the UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) program and working in close partnership with Smart ID to integrate our proven fingerprint identity solutions throughout India.”

Reported previously in BiometricUpdate.com, in 2012, it was announced that another iteration from DigitalPersona’s U.are.U fingerprpint modules would be used as a part of India’s UID project.

Also last year, the company appointed Richard Agostinelli as president and chief executive officer, amounting to one of the most important industry appointments for the year.

“Through our close partnership with DigitalPersona, we have received STQC certification which is critical to participate in the historic UIDAI program. This is also a very important achievement towards the Govt. of India’s Direct Cash Transfer scheme that launched 1st January 2013 using an Aadhaar number and finger authentication,” Nirmal Prakash, managing director at Smart Identity Devices Pvt. Ltd. said. “We are excited to combine the skills and resources of both companies to offer world class fingerprint biometric solutions throughout India.”
