Fujitsu launches Disney-themed smartphone with Fingerprint Cards swipe sensor

If you’ve been wishing upon a star for a Disney-themed smartphone with a fingerprint sensor, your dreams may have just come true.

The first smartphone using a Fingerprint Cards  fingerprint sensor has just been launched by Fujitsu and Japanese mobile provider DoCoMo, and the new phone – available in Japan — sports some heavy Disney branding.

“The Japanese market is well-known for its high quality and performance standards. Fujitsu and DoCoMo are the world’s most experienced users of finger sensors,” Johan Carlström, President and Chief Executive Officer of FPC said Monday. “It gives me great pleasure to see the launch of the first smartphone using FPC’s swipe sensor technology in this demanding market. This launch is evidence of FPC’s world-leading position as a supplier of capacitive fingerprint technology of highest quality, best image quality and lowest power consumption. We expect multiple launches in Japan and other parts of Asia during the rest of 2013 and beyond.”

The new phone, the Fujitsu F-07E is based on Android and features a FPC 1080 swipe sensor.

Reported previously, Fingerprint Cards recently released its interim report for the period of January-June 2013, and despite some recently-lowered projections, the company’s second quarter was declared its best yet.

According to the company, there are two main reasons for the changes to its projections: One is the delay of a few major projects involving swipe sensor technology, and the other is that several of the company’s OEM customers have chosen to evaluate area sensors as an alternative to swipe. This too has delayed the launch of projects.

“Finger sensors in smart devices have become an increasingly essential way to ensure that these devices are secure and at the same time they add convenience for the users,” Katsumi Takada, head of Mobile Phone Group of Fujitsu said. “Finger sensors in smartphones have become something of a trademark for Fujitsu and by adding 1080 swipe sensor technology from Fingerprint Cards,  we are taking the next step in helping smartphone users to increase the convenience of their experience through effortless fingerprint security.”
