SMi Group to host Border Security meeting in Rome

 

SMi Group announced it will host its eight annual Border Security meeting on February 18-19, 2015 at NATO’s defense college in Rome, Italy.

This year’s Border Security meeting will explore European border security and current operations in the region.

The meeting will see presentations on modern and innovative solutions, such as the use of satellites and unmanned aerial vehicles, providing attendees with new methods to boost their nation’s border security.

Additionally, the event will emphasize data privacy and protection issues and how border security authorities can overcome these challenges when implementing ABC and EES systems.

Event programs will include case studies from the European nations and leading security organizations addressing land, port and air borders, biometrics as part of border control, and more.

The meeting will offer a broad range of speakers from Italy, UK, Germany, Austria, Spain, Poland, Ukraine, Belgium, and France.

The speakers include John Vine, independent chief inspector of Borders and Immigration; Peter Waldbauer-Hable, senior detective chief inspector of the Bavarian Police; Adriano Baptista, head of operations division at the EU Satellite Centre; Roberto Mugavero, faculty of engineering professor at the University of Rome; Danielle Sharp, head of border security at Gatwick Airport; Krum Garkov, executive director of EU-lisa; and Ulrich Weynell, head of ISN security technology at International Security Network, among others.

There is also an interactive pre-conference workshop entitled Maritime Crime, held on February 17, 2015, which will be hosted by Neil Hall, assistant commissioner of Police (Retd), AFNI MIACP.
