Indian police force deploys NEC facial recognition solutions

NEC India has partnered with Innovative Telecom & Softwares Pvt. Ltd. to provide the Surat City Police in Gujarat, India with NEC’s face recognition solution, according to a report by TelecomTiger.

Surat City Police will deploy NEC’s NeoFace Watch for live CCTV surveillance and NeoFace Reveal for forensic criminal investigation as part of the region’s safe city initiative.

“We have found NEC’s face recognition solution to be the most appropriate solution with respect to face detection and investigation, and it will help Surat Police resolve crime cases in a very speedy manner,” said Rakesh Asthana, Police Commissioner of Surat City.

NeoFace Reveal is designed for forensic investigation purposes, enabling law enforcement and crime laboratory agencies to improve poor quality latent face images, search images against mug shot databases, and identify potential suspects.

Meanwhile, NeoFace Watch can be integrated into existing video surveillance systems as a way to matches faces in real-time against a watchlist of suspects.

“NEC continuously innovates to create and deliver safe city and smart city solutions,” said Koichiro Koide, managing director of NEC India. “Our face recognition technology has been through stringent performance evaluations and an extensive proof-of-concept process by the Surat Police, and has performed highly in terms of speed and accuracy. We are committed to the Surat City Police in this partnership towards enabling a safer city, and we look forward to future collaborations.”

NEC has successfully deployed both software solutions for many global government agencies, including in the US, UK and Singapore.

“We along with the Surat City police have evaluated multiple face recognition solutions from various parts of the world and found NEC to be the most accurate, fastest and the best criminal investigation application amongst all,” said Moin Shaikh, director of Innovative Telecom & Softwares Pvt Ltd, who implemented the Surat Safe City Project.
