Next Biometrics launches fingerprint sensor module with larger active sensing area

Next Biometrics Group ASA announced it has launched its NB-1011-S fingerprint area sensor module, a high quality serial interface sensor module designed for applications in physical access control, time and attendance, portable hard drives, smart card readers, safety boxes, and voting machines.

The new fingerprint area sensor module from Next Biometrics offers a significantly larger active sensing area at a lower price point.

With NB-1011-S fingerprint area sensor module, Next Biometrics is providing a fast and affordable alternate solution to competing products available on the market.

The sensor is able to scan fingerprints even when the user’s finger is dirty, damaged, wet, or cold.

“We have now shrunk the total module size of our 12×17 millimeter-sized sensor,” said Next Biometrics CEO Tore Etholm-Idsøe. “The new NEXT NB-1011-S module matches the module dimensions of existing high-cost solutions. This allows fast and cost efficient implementation of our module in already existing market devices.

“Furthermore, the new NEXT Biometrics NB-1011-S fingerprint area sensor module offers 201-square-millimeter active sensing area, compared with less than 150 square millimeters for the relevant competitors, giving the NEXT sensor significantly better overall performance.”

Previously reported, Next Biometrics Group ASA’s first Tier 1 client recently expanded its order for an additional 200,000 fingerprint sensors.
